Frequently Asked Questions

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure that is specifically designed to invoke the healing response in your skin by causing micro-trauma in a targeted way. Don't worry, it doesn't hurt as we use a topical to numb prior! During the treatment, we use a pen with a small head that contains 9+ needles that vibrate at high power, and at certain depths, to pierce the superficial layer of your skin thousands of times over a few seconds. These small and controlled abrasions go into your epidermis and even the upper layers of the dermis to stimulate the healing response in your skin, which results in increased collagen formation & elastin formation!

What are the benefits?

Increases collagen & elastin formation

  • Collagen & elastin are two components of the skin that give your skin a "plump" look. Starting at around the age of 30, this collagen starts to degrade naturally & that's when you start noticing slight changes & sagging in your skin.

Reduces hyper-pigmentation and evens skin tone

  • Hyper-pigmentation refers to the slight changes in your skin that can occur form inflammation, pimples, black heads, white heads, etc. Basically, any sort of skin problem results in changes in color to the underlying skin which doesn't match the surrounding skin-leaving it looking uneven & blotchy. It is speculated that microneedling increases the expression of matrix mealloproteinases which reduces hyper-pigmenation. In addition, vitamin C is applied during the procedure & the combination has been shown to balance Melanin levels as well.

Reduces fine lines & wrinkles

  • Who doesn't want to look younger!? It has been shown that the small pin holes created by the thousands of needles break into the upper levels of the dermis and cause the release of growth factors to "repair" and "heal" from the microdamage that has been caused. Basically, your body is overreacting to the small trauma thinking that there is a bigger trauma and this healing process results in the release of growth factors that increase collagen and elastin levels. In addition to the stimulation of collagen the micro-trauma also results in the formulation of tons of little blood vessels which supply blood, oxygen and nutrients straight into the dermis. The combination of these changes results in a reduction in wrinkles, healing of photo-damage and tightening of existing skin - all of which makes you look younger!

Mechanically exfoliates

  • Exfoliation refers to removing the upper surface of the epidermis, usually the stratum corneum (upper most skin layer where your dead cells live). When you remove this layer of the epidermis your skin immediately looks fresh & smooth!

Who is a good candidate?

Microneedling is incredible for anyone who wants to improve skin irregularities & look younger! Plus, it's safe on all skin types!

How much downtime should I expect?

You will look pink (similar to a sunburn) for 2-7 days approximately. Within 2 weeks you will start to see a change that will continue for 3 months. Keep in mind; a single procedure will make a nice change, but a series of 3-6 treatments is ideal for optimal results.
